The Social Gents / Pomona,Ca / 01.21.17
Home of the Fairplex and the NHRA Raceway and host to events such as the LA County Fair and the Classic Car show, Pomona is now home to The Social Cut; a premier men's grooming cafe. Set to have it's grand opening in March 2017, The Social Cut is a modern fusion between your vintage barber shop, custom tailoring and your classic cafe lounge; and it was also the site of 2017's first Social Gents event.
Nicely settling in with a glass of wine (or a few, who's counting) and mingling with a few new faces and some familiar ones, all the picture taking, instagramming and IG Stories began. As is per usual at the Social Gents events, launghs and photo snapping filled the venue, but on this particular date, we had the pleasure of having a guest speaker, helping us further understand the ever changing definition of an "instagram influencer" and how to take steps to be a successful one. After making sure we're all following each other on instagram and having a few laughs with an ice breaker, we took our seats as Steve (@thesocialcut) introduced George Laboda, co-founder of Gents Lounge (@gentslounge /@atlasandmason) as guest speaker. Recognizing a need to create a space where men can learn style and fashion from each other, Gents Lounge is the brainchild of George Laboda and Blake Scott, two top influencers in men's fashion. Between all their social media, they reach over a million gentlemen from around the world in sharing their sense of fashion and lifestyle. After talking instagram, personal branding and the good and bad of collaborating with different menswear brands, we headed to take real pictures, with real cameras and a real guy behind the lens. We were lucky enough to have Daniel Munoz (@daniel_s_munoz) as our event photographer which brought that real camera mentioned and downtown Pomona provided us with a nice gritty brick scenery perfect for group shots, seflies and even a drone came out to play at the end of the shoot. As some said their goodbyes and headed to start their saturday night, the other half of us headed down the street for a quick game of pool, brews, chit chat and a quick bite to eat.As the nightlife came alive in downtown Pomona, we each headed our way, checking our phones, posting and editing on insta and double tapping the pictures of the event as they all slowly but surely made they way online.
